Royal Mail Postage Guide

Royal Mail offers various ways to post items such as the following:

First Class Standard / RecordedSecond Class Standard / RecordedSpecial Delivery Next Day (9am or before 1pm)Standard ParcelsAirmailInternational Signed ForAirsureSurface Mail

Both first and second class are charged by weight as well as size. Make sure that when working out how much it will cost to send an item that you think of both the size and weight of the item.

Recorded delivery costs just 70p on top of the standard first or second class charge which is able to be tracked online or over the phoneand has 32 insurance included.

Special Delivery Next Day is also able to be tracked online but has a much higher insurance coverage then recorded delivery and is guaranteed for next day delivery (Saturday guaranteed delivery is extra) You can choose from 9am or before 1pm delivery.

Standard Parcels is a way to send non urgent parcels at a low cost price.

Airmail is a cheap but quick way or getting mail overseas.

International Signed For is a way to get a signature on delivery plus insurance and track your item online. It costs a small fee on top of the standard Airmail cost.

Airsure is a fast way to get items abroad with online tracking and insurance included. Airsure is quicker than International Signed For.

Surface Mail is the cheapest international service, but also the slowest.

If you choose a non-insured service including the international options, remember that you should get a certificate of posting from the post office which will cover you for 32 absolutely free! Fill this in and hand it over at the time of posting to get it stamped. This is free insurance, but you cannot track an item using this. For more valuable items use special delivery.

Make sure that you keep your receipts until the eBay transaction is complete.
