PLEASE NOTE I OWNED THE 60GB VERSION WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT THEY NOW HAVE DROPPED THE PRICE OFF THE PS3 BUT HAVE LOWERED THE SIZE OF THE HARDRIVE AS WELL
hiya thanks for taking the time to read my guide about the ps3 which i have recently purchased please note4 iam lucky enough to own all 3 next gen consoles so this as honest as its going to be.over this review-guide i will be comparing the console to the other next generation consoles out there ie the xbox 360 and the nintendo wii and i will be pointing out the things the ps3 does well and which it dosent do so well
when i got the ps3 out of the box i noticed a few things
it looks amazing (allthough a bit of a finger print magnet)
its quite heavy (heavy then the xbox 360)
its quite big (a bit bigger then the xbox 360 but nothing drastic)
in the box i recieved the console a normal scart connection an instruction manaul and 1 controller which has built in motion sensors but no rumble.please note the motion sensors are not as good as the wii ones but are still a good idear however the missing of the rumble pack built into the controllers is a big miss for me i like feeling the white lines on the tracks as you race round them and actually feeling the pad shake when youve been shot etc i hope they can get round this in the future but for now its defently a big miss.you also dont recieve a hd connection and this is quite frustrating please bear in mind that ive allready spent 425 on the premium console and now i have to pay another 10-20 pounds fo a hd cable the xbox 360 has one in the box but the wii is not hd compatible.
it does however come out of the box with more feature then the 360 and wii here are some things that it comes out of the box with
bluetooth version 2--built in wireless connection--memory card reader--blueray player--free ps3 internet network--60gig hardrive--full internet browser--linux compatible --
as you can see from that list it features a good array of features and if you are looking at buying a bluray player they alone can cost the same and much more then a ps3 so to sell one with a built in games console is quite impressive and makes the so called exspensive price look like quite a bargain.
however 425 is quite exspensive and alot of money to pay out so how does this console compare to another console that is also next gen and can be bought for at least 100 pounds cheaper (please note they are now cheaper then this but dont have the same 60gb hardrive it is much smaller)
at the moment the games are roughly the same quality between the xbox 360 and the ps3 people are telling me that the ps3 will kick butt in the future,but after reading some important information iam a bit worried.
you see the ps3s processor is much different to the xbox 360s the xbox 360s is built up of 3 master cpus all capable of the same things with the same power capabillities etc
however when you look at the ps3s main processor it is built up of 1 master cpu with i believe 7 slave cpus (these arent full cpus but mini cpus) in theory this means the ps3 will have to use the main processor to tell the slaves what to do.where as the xbox 360s will all be able to think for there selves etc
people are saying that developers havent really used the ps3s type of cpu before so therfore its going to take a while for them to get used to it etc.
this becomes eveident in conversions like oblivion etc where professinal reviewers like gamespot etc are actually saying that the xbox versions of the games are better (must be because the developers are having troubles converting them due to the drastically different main cpus in the machines.
in terms of stats the ps3 has the abillity to be one kick ass machine i mean the ps3 discs can holdmuch more infothen the 360 discs as they use blueray and the 360 disc are just dual layer dvds i think the ps3 disc can hold around 3-4 times as much info as the 360s discs
if developers really do take to the ps3 imagine what they could develop :-) the games could be so so big i mean oblivion fits on a 9 gig disc and if youve played that youve seen how big it is imagine nearly3-4 times the size of that it could be huge.but its down to the developers and sony to spend some big money singing them.
dont forget the xbox 360 has had along time in the market and when it first came out it had major issues to microsoft have released at least 3 major system updates sony will be doing the same and they have allready released a update with improved features etc so over time it will get even better.
the online department is defently one that the 360 wins at the min you do have to pay roughly 40 pounds for a years subscription but with this you get a great service that runs smooth and is easy to use
the ps3s version is not as smooth and allthough i havent had any lag in games just the layout of the game lobbys etc isnt as good and simple to use theres also not as many people online due to it being new xbox 360 has 10 million registered users which is great. i also like the way the rankings etc on the 360 work they dont seem to work as well on the ps3 at the mo and i really like the gaming achievments you get on the xbox 360 these dont seem to appear on the ps3
the ps3 online shop is quite good and due to sony being involved with film studios and music contracts etc expect to find music movies and much more then just games on there in the near future :-)
so in the games the xbox and ps3 are equal at the min and it could go either way in the future it all depends on the developers
and the xbox 360 wins the online department allthough sony has only just started and in my eyes it has started well but at the moment it cant compare with something thats been established online allready for over a YEAR ahead
but what about entertainment centres?? well id have to say the ps3 wins this department it has built in bluray (which is very good) built in memory card reader, plays alot of formats,has a 60 gig hardrive and is upgradeable via any 2.5" laptop hardrive so you could fit it with 160 gig :-),it has bluetooth built in for keyboards etc,you can connect 7 devices via bluetooth which is very handy and this console can even install a second operating system which is very easy to do and that means you can have linux os running on your ps3 as well as the ps3 seriously iam not kidding just check out the web by googling ps3 linux its quite unbelieveable but works brilliant
am i glad i bought one?? to be honest yes i love its features but if you just want a gaming machine with great graphics and sound as well as the best online exsperience youll get from a console then the 360 will be quite adequte for you.
if you want a multimedia hub with loads of features and a top gaming machine then it probably is worth paying the bit extra and getting the ps3 as it is a top machine i just hoe the developers grasp it and use it instead of just emabracing the 360 it will be intresting to see thats for sure :-)

just connectedto myhd telly WOW this is the way the ps3 is meant to be played iam getting to like this machine more and more each day ive also found out that it takes normal laptop hardrives so you can easily upgrade the hadrive to 160 gig which makes the xbox 360s 20 gig look very small

ive now sold my ps3 as it was not being played due to the lack of games and all the good games coming out on the xbox 360 which were cheaper to buy and contained more even though the ps3 discs were bigger for example tiger woods o7 has lots of courses on the 360 but it has at least 3 courses missing on the ps3 and costs over 10 pounds more how silly is that
bottom line is developers are struggling to develop the games for this console because of its totally new cpu design etc
for example grand theft auto 4 the latest one was due for release in late october all vids shown to the world have been 360 prototypes not once has a ps3 car jacking or cut scene been shown and now the release date has been put back to march why??? because gamestar are tied by contract to release the game on the same date on each platform well they underestimated how hard the ps3 would be to program for now theyve come across stumbling blocks and struggling with it hence the posponed release date of grand theft auto 4
id seriously go for the xbox 360 everyday all day its just a much better gaming machine with very good media capabillities the ps3 seems to be an excellent media centre but not a very good games machine well yet anyway :-)

STILL NO KICK ASS GAMES FOR THE PS3 WHAT AN EARTHS GOING ON EVERYGAME THAT COMES OUT ON THE PS3 USAULLY COMES OUT ON THE XBOX 360 BUT 10 POUNDS CHEAPER WITH MORE CONTENT THE THE PS3 VERSION
HOW COMES TIGER WOODS HAS LESS COURSES ON THE PS3 THEN IT DOSE ON THE XBOX 360?? BUT YET THE PS3 DISCS HOLD 3-4 TIMES MORE INFO AND THE GAME ON THE PS3 COSTS ROUGHLY 10 POUNDS MORE
HOW COMES OBLIVION IS SO SO CHEAP ON THE360 BUT SO EXSPENSIVE ON THEPS3 YET THE 360S GRAPHICS ARE BETTER IN THIS GAME AND THERE IS DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT ON XBOX LIVE LIKE NEW LEVELS ETC ITS JUST SILLY I RECKON BY THE TIME THE DEVELOPERS NOW HOW TO USE THE PS3 IT WILL BE EXTINCT AND THE PS4 WILL BE ON THE WAY LOL DONT BUY ONE JUST BUY THE XBOX 360 WITH A HD DVD ADD ON ITS THE WISEST CHOICE :-)
IF YOU LIKE ONLINE GAMING DONT BUY THE PS3 ITS NOT GREAT
BOTTOM LINE BUY A WII OR XBOX 360 UNTILL THE PS3 TAKES OFF IF IT EVER DOES
